Milling of a product is achieved by the wet milling or dry milling process.

Wet milling can achieve ultrafine particle sizes that are not possible with dry milling or grinding because of the limitations of the process.  Wet milling involves the use of specially engineered equipment that processes the mixture of materials in a liquid medium or “slurry”. Custom Milling & Consulting LLC (CMC), headquartered in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania USA, is a global leader in wet milling technologies and manufactures horizontal milling machines for customers in China and throughout the world.

Although it may be a more energy- and labor-intensive process, wet milling allows you to produce a greater variety of byproducts from your material because you can achieve very fine particle sizes.

Some industrial processes generate hazardous by-products that may require special handling, but others can actually be used to generate additional revenue.

One example of profitable by-products involves the production of ethanol from corn.

Wet milling/grinding can break the corn into its four main components: starch, germ, fiber, and protein. The germ can be used to make corn oil, along with feed products for livestock. Further grinding produces fiber using an attrition-impact mill. Fiber is another major component of animal feeds. Starch that is not utilized in the ethanol can become high fructose corn syrup. And CO2 gas that collects during fermentation can be sold for carbonation to drink manufacturers.

Also, some materials exhibit completely different physical properties when they are reduced to nanoparticles. For example, organic pigments, when processed to sub-micron sizes, offer greater color strength than those produced by conventional grinding to one or two microns. This allows you to use less pigment in an ink, paint, or dye, and reduce your production costs.

CMC has met the challenges surrounding particle size reduction with our CMC Supermill PLUS™ horizontal media mill which is equipped with the latest milling technology and pioneering design features. This media mill is efficient, flexible and cost-effective for the most demanding applications.

The Supermill PLUS™ media mill is offered in a variety of sizes and materials of construction to suit your processing needs.

Also available is the CMC Duplex Supermill PLUS II which is designed with two chambers on one common frame and offers one of the most productive and efficient ways to address difficult custom processing applications.  The product passes through the first chamber and directly into the second chamber without the need of a surge tank or separate feed pump.  Typically, larger media is charged in the first chamber and finer media in the second chamber.  This enables two stages of grinding in one continuous pass.

With more than 25 years of expertise in process engineering and dispersion technology, Custom Milling and Consulting LLC, can customize process machinery to a customer’s specific needs. We are committed to providing innovative wet milling technology to our customers for cleaner dispersions, finer particle sizes and highest product quality.
