Custom Milling & Consulting LLC, specializes in wet milling, a process of grinding wet applications for particle size reduction.

When companies first began to process wet materials, it started with a ball mill to process batches for extended periods of time with operation running into several days. As time went this process became inefficient as demand for finer particle sizes increased and people wanted products faster.  Advances in smaller denser media and new mills capable of impelling the media at higher velocities made it possible to meet the demand.

While wet grinding may not always be the most cost effective solution, there are down sides to dry grinding, extra cleaning and filtration systems are required due to the capability of many of the particles in the air becoming unstable when mixing with oxygen, greater chance of product contamination, it can produce dust and can be inefficient in the long term.

While dry grinding is still in need for certain materials and products, wet milling has grown rapidly in the several years due to the following benefits:

  • Reduction of particle size
  • Finer, more even dispersion
  • High shear performance
  • More efficient operation
  • Lower energy consumption
  • Reduced production times
  • Increased capacity and higher yields
  • Ability to handle diverse viscosities
  • Size of media can be adjusted for varying applications
  • Safe for products with heat-sensitive, hazardous or contamination related issues.

CMC manufactures equipment for wet milling, mixing, grinding, blending, and compounding of a wide variety of applications.

Our Supermill PlusTM Horizontal Media Mill and Batch (Basket) Mills utilize media mill technology for particle size reduction to submicron and nanometer ranges. If companies do not have the ability to purchase their own machinery due to various reasons, from lack of space or expense, CMC can offer toll milling services.

Whether it is the purchase of one of our machines or enlisting our toll milling services we have the right solution for you. CMC is committed to providing innovative wet milling technology to our customers for cleaner dispersion, finer particle sizes and highest product quality.

Equipment trials are available in our lab testing facilities for you to run your formulation or perform a pilot test. Contact us today at 610-926-0984 or email sales@cmcmilling.com for more information.
