Horizontal media mills, submersion-type basket media mills and high-shear dispersers are used for the grinding of wet applications for particle size reduction, and it is crucial to select the right media mill whether you are manufacturing pigmented inks, technical ceramics, coatings, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals or nano-scale high-tech products.

Custom Milling & Consulting LLC, (CMC), headquartered in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania USA, is a global leader in the manufacture of horizontal milling machines for customers in Brazil and throughout the world.

Milling of a product is achieved by the wet milling or dry milling process.

Dry milling generally cannot break a product down to preserve its different parts for other uses. Wet milling is a more energy-intensive, labor-intensive process, but the process can break a product down into more components, and into finer particles, allowing you to produce a greater variety of byproducts.

Wet milling requires more expensive milling equipment, but can be far more profitable for manufacturers in the end. While some industrial processes generate hazardous by-products that may require special handling, others can actually be used to generate additional revenue.

Wet milling can achieve ultrafine particle sizes that are simply not possible with dry milling/dry grinding due to the limitations caused by the nature of the process. This involves the use of specially engineered equipment that processes the mixture of materials in a liquid medium or “slurry”.

Wet milling processes can be applied to a variety of materials, including:

  • Adhesives and Sealants
  • Agricultural Chemicals
  • Biomaterials
  • Ceramics
  • Composites
  • Electronic Materials
  • Glass
  • Metals and Alloys
  • Nanomaterials
  • Paints, Inks and Coatings
  • Personal Care Products
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Plastics and Polymers

CMC has met the challenges surrounding particle size reduction with our CMC Supermill PLUS™ horizontal media mill which is equipped with the latest milling technology and pioneering design features.

This media mill is efficient, flexible and cost-effective for the most demanding applications.  The Supermill PLUS™ media mill is offered in a variety of sizes and materials of construction to suit your processing needs.

Also available is the CMC Duplex Supermill PLUS II which is designed with two chambers on one common frame and offers one of the most productive and efficient ways to address difficult custom processing applications.  The product passes through the first chamber and directly into the second chamber without the need of a surge tank or separate feed pump.  Typically, larger media is charged in the first chamber and finer media in the second chamber.

This enables two stages of grinding in one continuous pass.

CMC has developed a line of process equipment for the mixing, milling and blending of wetted materials including horizontal media mills, basket media mills, planetary mixers and ram presses.

We apply our expertise in process engineering and dispersion technology to customizable process machinery that can be tailored to a customer’s specific needs.
